Today, residents celebrate another milestone.
State and local elected officials joined workers as the Winston Plywood & Veneer plant held an official ribbon cutting for its new 300-thousand square foot facility.

The former facility was destroyed by the April 28th, 2014 tornado.

Construction kicked off in January of 2015 and operations began in the fall of 2016.

Louisville Mayor Will Hill says today is an opportunity to show appreciation and celebrate how far the community has come.

“It just means so much to this community. It’s been a long time coming, as you guys have covered us over the last several years and we appreciate that, but watching us get to this point and this is really just the beginning because now, it’s about the company and their success and making a profit and the better they do, the better the community is going to do.”

Hill says the entire month is a community celebration of how far it has come since the tornado, and will culminate with the ribbon cutting of the new Winston Medical Center.A Florida woman said she was lucky to walk away alive and uninjured after a piece of plywood fell from a lumber truck and crashed through her windshield.

Stephanie Williams said she was on I-75 when she noticed the load of wood being carried by a large commercial vehicle ahead of her was not tightly secured.

Officials said the piece of plywood crashed through the driver’s side of her windshield, but it struck her door frame and broke.
